Early Years Foundation Stage

We are pleased that since opening our second school site at Belthorne, we have been able to increase the number of pupils in the Early Years Foundation Stage. Whilst due to our waiting lists and the priority of taking children who are statutory school age we  do not currently have any children of nursery age, we now have 14 children who are in their reception year.

The children follow the EYFS curriculum and the characteristics of effective learning are embedded into everyday practice.  Children have the opportunity to engage in both adult directed and child initiated learning both indoors and outdoors.  The classroom environments reflect the needs of the learner’s e.g. minimum distraction increased use of visuals and total communication.  Carefully planned continuous provision opportunities enable the children to engage in all areas of learning, with an increased emphasis on developing learning in the Prime Areas. 

Children are assessed at the end of the EYFS using the EYFS Profile.  Staff carry out daily assessments through observations and planned activities which allows them to plan next steps and extend children’s learning further.

As with all other areas if the school, aspects of the enhanced curriculum and personalised curriculum also apply to the children in the Early Years Foundation Stage.
