(SEAL) Social And Emotional Aspects Of Learning
At Camberwell Park School we believe strongly that supporting the children’s social and emotional wellbeing should underpin all aspects of their learning. To support this we use the SEAL curriculum resource which aims to develop the underpinning qualities and skills that help promote positive behaviour and effective learning. It focuses on five social and emotional aspects of learning: self-awareness, managing feelings, motivation, empathy and social skills. The materials help children develop skills such as understanding another’s point of view, working in a group, sticking at things when they get difficult, resolving conflict and understanding and managing their emotions.
The materials are organised into seven themes: New Beginnings, Getting on and falling out, Say no to bullying, Going for goals! Good to be me, Relationships and Changes. At Camberwell Park we work hard to adapt these materials to meet the needs of the individual children within our school and develop the children’s knowledge and skills through focused lessons each week. These take place in our designated space for SEAL and other emotional development called the the ‘Bubble Room’. The themes are introduced each half term in an assembly and are rounded off at the end of the half term in this assembly.
